Keep Hydrating

three jars with hydrating water with fruits

Taking care of yourself requires more than spa days, rest and relaxation. Those things are definitely good for you; however, eating healthy foods and staying hydrated are very important. In fact, it is easier for many people to remember to eat healthy foods than it is for them to remember to stay hydrated.

Moisturize Inside and Out
You know to put on your sunscreen and keep your skin moisturized. It is not uncommon for people to spend hundreds of dollars on expensive masks, creams and lotions to keep their skin soft and supple. Yet, forgetting or ignoring your body’s need for good old common water can undermine all the work put into keeping your skin looking healthy.

Our bodies are about 60% water. Approximately 73% of the brain and heart are composed of water. Your lungs are almost 83% water and your muscles and kidneys are about 79% water. Your skin contains about 64% water. Your bones are not dry either. They contain about 31% water. So, you can see how important water is to healthy living.

Water for Optimal Brain Function
People are amazed that the human body is so hardy and yet so delicate. A few degrees in temperature one way or the other can spell serious problems, even death. The body has requirements for water intake to keep it alive and functioning at its best.

Dehydration can lead to a variety of problems, including cognitive impairment. It is not hard to see that with the majority of the brain mass being composed of water, if there is not enough of it, the brain begins to malfunction. Memory, the ability to concentrate and mood can be altered when the brain does not receive enough water. Some people experience headaches when they are dehydrated.

Water for Health
Every living thing withers when there is not enough water. That includes the human body. The good news is that water is more plentiful than you think, and you do not need to grab the gallon jug and carry it around with you to make sure you are getting enough. There is water in foods, especially in melons and berries, and most people can tell when they get thirsty, so you can let you body guide you into drinking enough water.
